On our most recent trip to Hong Kong, we decided to visit the Eaton Hong Kong hotel near the Jordan MTR. The hotel is strategically located between two MTRs, which make it really convenient for any types of travelers. I’m not sure about you but we are thrilled to realize that there is a 24-hour Cha Chaan Teng just opposite the streets.
Hong Kong is infamous for its tiny apartment. I could still remember our horrible experience when we stayed in Airbnb a few years ago. It was then I told myself to never degrade my holidays with such a terrible and almost non-existence hospitality. If you are looking to stay in Airbnb, you might want to ensure that what you get are worth what you pay for.
Eaton Hong Kong
Among other hotels that we have shortlisted for this trip, Eaton Hong Kong was one of the cheapest alternatives. We paid for an Executive Room for around S$ 190/night after all our credit card rebates and discount.
We took an airport bus (A21) from the airport and alighted at Nathan Road for HK $33. After that, it will be a very straightforward walk to the hotel.
When we travel overseas, we always look at the convenience of the location. Eaton Hong Kong is located between Jordan and Yau Ma Tei MTR. If we walk to Jordan MTR, we can reach Mong Kok in two stops. On the other hand, we can find ourselves in Tsim Sha Shui in a short 15 minutes walk if we walk towards Yau Ma Tei MTR. One stone kills two birds, eh?
We also love the streets around the hotel. First, we can find Tsui Wah (24-hour Cha Chaan Teng) just right across our hotel lobby. There is also a 24-hour convenience store opposite the street. If we are up for a coffee in the morning, we can also walk to Starbucks in 3-minutes for a fix.
Unfortunately, we did not have a very smooth check-in experience. We arrived Eaton Hong Kong at about 1.00 p.m. As the check-in only opens at 2:00 p.m, we decided to deposit our luggage at the reception and went out for a quick lunch.
When we returned at around 2.30 p.m, our room was still not ready. The hotel reception told us that we might have to wait until 3.00 p.m before the cleaning can be completed. As clock ticks at 3.00 p.m, we still have not received our room key.
By 3.00 p.m, our patience was running thin. As I went to enquire for the 4th time, the hotel reception apologized and gave us two complimentary tickets to redeem free drinks at the bar on the same floor. We ordered two glasses of beer and chilled at the lobby.
Finally, at about 3:30 p.m, we received our room key. We quickly gulped down our drinks and took our luggage discretetly to the room. The hotel reception had to call us to check that we had taken our luggage personally (oops).
We felt that we could have experienced better check-in experience. I couldn’t imagine if we have planned any appointments after the check-in time. Guess we (they) were lucky.
The Executive Room
On a brighter side, we were really happy with our room. The Executive Room at Eaton Hong Kong offers 24 sq.m to its patrons. It can comfortably accommodate two adults with two medium-size luggage.
As you can imagine, there are not many views from the room. Well, unless you considered viewing the Hong Kong’s classic high-rise apartments as one of the attractions…
Unfortunately, we forgot to take a photo of the bathroom. If you are afraid that the bathroom will be too small to use, you can rest assured that the size is very comfortable and the cleanliness is top-notch.
One thing that we dislike the room was the strength of the air-conditioner. We have attempted to blast at its lowest temperature but the room still feels hot in the middle of the night. If you are someone who prefers a colder room, perhaps you have to take note of this.
If you do not have a Hong Kong data card (or Happy Roam), you can use the handy phone in the room to access the Internet outside of the hotel. We also realised that you can purchase discounted vouchers to various attractions such as Disneyland through the handy phone.
I’m very skeptical in entering our credit card details into an unknown device. Then again, it is very a very convenient equipment for any tourists who did not bring a data card along.
We did not visit any facilities in the hotel as we spent most of our times outside of the hotel. You can find a heated swimming pool on the higher floor too.
We felt that we have stayed comfortably in Eaton Hong Kong. It is, however, much cheaper only because we use our rebates and discounts. The location is great even though we concluded that we would prefer something nearer to the MTR.
There are many other hotels residing in Jordan MTR and we felt that we will probably try other places the next time we visit Hong Kong. Of course, if we are unable to find any good deals, we should be going back to Eaton Hong Kong again.
