If you are a fan of trekking, you might want to try Seoraksan National Park the next time you visit South Korea.
Seoraksan National Park is located in the city of Sokcho, which is situated a few hours bus-ride away from Seoul. According to the tourism website, it is mostly visited during Autumn because of its beautiful scenery.
Fallen leaves are falling down… falling down… falling down~
We visited Seorakan in one of the late Decembers. The wind was so strong and the temperature was almost unbearable. Despite our best in layering our clothes, we were still shivering when we arrived at the park. That being said, we had never regretted visiting Seoraksan National Park.
Why Should I Visit Seoraksan National Park?
If you like the beauty of nature, you must visit the park. I couldn’t speak for other seasons but it is really very beautiful when we visited in winter.
If you are looking for a place to trek in Korea, Seoraksan National Park has several trekking routes for you to try out. This is also perfect for beginners.
It might be very difficult to make a day-trip outside of the city if you do not speak Korean. Fear not. Today we are going to share how you can make your way to the park (without speaking much Korean)
Making Your Way to Seoraksan National Park
If you are traveling to Korea in 2020, you might be thrill to know that there might be a possibility that the Korail can take you to Sokcho.
Otherwise, there is only one method to make your way to Seoraksan National Park – bus.
You can take a bus bounded to Sokcho from Express Bus Terminal at Express Bus Terminal Station. That’s where you can do all your cheap underground shopping. The bus journey is expected to be at least 3 hours so do plan for your day carefully.
The one-way bus ticket was priced at 17,000 won/pax. There will be a seat assigned to you when you purchase your ticket.
It is alright if you cannot speak Korean. Let the counter knows that you want to go “Sokcho” and they will tell you a few timings that is available for purchase. Sign languages and numbers do work well internationally.
There are two bus terminals in Sokcho. If you take a bus from the different subway station, you will alight at a different bus terminal.
Once you alighted at the bus terminal, you walk towards the tourist kiosk and cross to the opposite road at a traffic light near 7-11. You can then take either bus 7 or bus 7-11 to Seoraksan National Park.
Where To Stay?
There are a couple of hotels at the foot of the mountain. We stayed in Seoraksan Tourist Hotel, which is unfortunately closed down for good.
What To Explore at Seoraksan National Park
Plenty. I will let the photos do its justice and shut my mouth for a few minutes.
Seoraksan National Park is the best choice in our trip. It’s awesome and it’s really beautiful.
