If you have a half a day spare in Taichung, consider making your way to Taiwan Times Village!
Taiwan Times Village (寶島時代村) is a live museum (much like Korean Folk Village), which aims to recreate the old days of times in Taiwan.
It is like traveling back to the past. You can enjoy the traditional Taiwan games and indulge in the local delights.
If you are lucky, you will be able to catch some of the local performance on the stage (寶島大戲院).
How to Go Taiwan Times Village?
We took bus 6899 from Taichung Station. Alternatively, you can take bus 108. However, it is important to note that 6899 takes two different routes. One travels to 埔里, while the other travels to 草屯. You have to take the one that travel towards 草屯 to go Taiwan Times Village. You may want to inform the bus driver your destination. It is rather difficult to distinguish bus stops in Taichung.
If you take 6899, you will need to alight at 中正路口. After that, you will have to walk for another 5-10 minutes before you reach the destination.
To return to Taichung station, you can take bus 108 from the bus-stop opposite of Taiwan Times Village. However, we suggest to take a cab. The bus interval may go up to 15-20 minutes. We asked the village’s reception to get us a cab back to Taichung station. We remember the price was quite reasonable. After all, Taiwan’s cab isn’t very expensive to begin with.
Why We Love Taiwan Times Village?
… It’s A Different Experience
You get to see vintage items like old-time posters, figurines that we once find it so family and even benches in the 70s.
The place tries to mimic the oldies so it has all sorts of decorations that you’ve seen in your childhood. Everyone is enjoying their food, admiring the place and having fun with some mini-games along the way.
… It Triggers Memories.
I guess… toys seem to be similar everywhere. There is a toy museum located inside Taiwan Times Village.
These toys and comic books are so familiar that you will be like “hey I’ve seen this before!” or “hey that’s my toys!”. It’s really fun and it starts you talking to your friends something different from everyday food.
Taiwan Times Village is really a fun place to go. It’s believably the best live museum I have ever visited in any countries. Korean Folk Village was not as lively as there and it’s nowhere comparable when it comes to hospitality.
If you have a chance to be in Taichung, be sure to make your way to Taiwan Times Village!
