Hotel Review: KSL Hotel & Resort (Deluxe King Room)

Hotel Review: KSL Hotel & Resort (Deluxe King Room)

written by limkopi April 20, 2017

Johor Bahru (JB) has quickly become our favorite place to hang out on the weekends. After our horrible experience with the crowd on Saturday buses, we decided to stay at KSL  Hotel & Resort for a night.

We took a taxi from City Square Shopping Mall to KSL Hotel & Resort for about RM 20 on a Saturday afternoon. If you have a prepaid sim card, you should be able to get a cheaper price with GrabCar.

The 4-star hotel has a connected path from its lobby to KSL City Mall. Around the hotel you can find several eateries such as bak kut teh and curry fish head. You can also look forward the night for lok lok’s lorry stopping by the streets behind KSL City Mall.

Our Check-In Experience

We arrived at the hotel just a little later than the check-in time. There were some hiccups during our check-in process. But it’s due to our carelessness as we forgot to save the hotel confirmation email before we went to Johor Bahru. The Agoda’s app took forever to load our confirmation page (slow WIFI) so it took a while before we are done with the process.

This is, however, the first time we have to present Agoda’s booking ID to the hotel staff. In the past, we only have to present our passports to search and verify our booking with the hotel.

We were told by the hotel staff that there are two towers in KSL Hotel & Resort. Hotel guests have to take different lifts for different towers. The lift for Tower 1 is nearer to the hotel lobby while the lifts for Tower 2 is 3 minutes walk away from the hotel lobby in the same building.

After we were given our room card, we quickly made our way to our room on the 23rd floor of Tower 1.

KSL Hotel & Resort: The Deluxe King Room

The Deluxe King Room at KSL Hotel & Resort is one of the better room-type you can get in the property. If you are on the high floor with city view, you can find yourself enjoying the city views right from your room when you drawn up the curtains.

The Deluxe Room includes a king-sized bed, which is accompanied with 2 individual boosters for the hotel guests. The bed feels really comfortable and boosters make it even more addicted to our sleep.

Unfortunately, I do not fancy their brownish carpets and purplish curtains as they have certainly make the room dull and sulky.

As per like other hotel rooms, the TV is mounted right in front of the bed. You will be able to access Malaysia’s channel, Singapore channels, and some paid movie channels. We do suggest to bring your own entertainment channels as their paid selection seems to be quite limited.

You can also expect complimentary water, coffee and tea bags from the hotel.

Basic Amenities in the hotel

The Bathroom

The bathroom feels really small as compared to the recent hotels that we have stayed. I don’t feel that the toilet is thoroughly clean but it is enough for just a night stay. They have bathroom amenities but they are not really fantastic to use.

We also suggest bringing your own towels as both of our towels were stained with dirt.

Other Facilities/Services

Late Check-out: KSL Hotel & Resort offers late check-out until 6 pm for RM 70 (subject to availability). You can inform the hotel staff at the reception in the morning on the day you need to check out. Otherwise, you might be able to request for a free late check-out up to 1 pm.

Late checkouts for you?

Request For Ice: Unfortunately, this hotel does not offer free tube of ice. On top of the tips, you will have to pay RM 5 for a tube of ice.

Room Service: We always like to order room service for our supper. I can’t quite remember how much we paid for the plate of nasi lemak but it was not worth the penny we have paid for. I doubt we will be ordering it again if we ever stay in KSL Hotel & Resort again.

Swimming Pool & Gym: We did not visit the swimming pool or gym. If you have kids, you can bring them to the dinosaurs pool.

Overall Impression

We paid around S$ 120/night for the Deluxe King room. Honestly, the room is not the cleanliest we have seen but it is quite okay for a short stay. KSL Hotel & Resort does provide a convenient mean for shoppers to chill and relax after some shopping activities at KSL City Mall.

However, we do feel that Holiday Villa Johor Bahru, which is located behind KSL City Mall, is a much better choice if you are looking for a hotel to stay in the vicinity.
