If you are looking for a way to convert VMWare images to QCOW2 format, you are at the right place.
I recently have to convert some images created in VMWare Workstation 11 to QCOW2. I downloaded a couple of free images from Microsoft so that I can test my webpages in Microsoft Edge, IE11 and older version of IE.
You can download those images in the following format:
This is really very useful but I was looking to use them in QEMU so I have to convert one of those formats into QCOW2.
Convert VMWare Images to QCOW2 Format
Lucky for me, it is actually possible to convert VMWare and VirtualBox images to QEMU using QEMU’s converter.
This is what you need to convert them into QCOW2 format.
qemu-img convert -p -O qcow2 new.qcow2
I can see that this is a very convenient way to get started with a virtual image. In case you need QCOW2 format, you can always use the above command to convert them.
