During one of our recent trips to Johor Bahru, we decided to check out Holiday Villa Johor Bahru. The one-year old 4-star hotel is located conveniently right behind KSL City Mall. We booked the place for two nights and it’s really awesome.
We took a Grabcar from JB Sentral on a Friday late afternoon for RM 6. Of course, you can also choose to take a bus from JB Sentral if you are looking for another method to reach the hotel.
But uh, we really wouldn’t recommend it.
Around the hotel you can find several famous eateries such as bak kut teh and curry fish head. And of course, you can walk to KSL City Mall for your shopping pleasure within 3 minutes.
Our Check-In Experience
We were quickly directed to the reception as we stepped into the hotel’s entrance. The bell boy was swift in providing his help for our small luggage and remained polite despite us rejecting his service. On our way to the reception, we were also greeted cheerfully by another hotel staff who was initially talking to his colleague.
The check-in process was quick. In a short while, we were given the cards to our room on the 18th floor of the hotel.
Holiday Villa Johor Bahru: The Premium Suite
The Premium Suite at Holiday Villa Johor Bahru is the best room type you can get in the property. I have to say that we were really impressed. Standing at 50 sqm, the room is really spacious for two. The room comes with a small living area, which has a sofa set and coffee table. We spent most of our time in this area watching television and munching on our lok lok.
The photo is unable to do any justice to the sofa set. But trust me, it’s so comfortable that we were joking we don’t mind sleeping on the sofa just like that.
The living area is the best place to indulge in your supper while watching the TV. Just like other hotels we have stayed in Johor Bahru, you can expect to see local channels, Singapore channels and very little paid movie channels. For the first time, we were able to connect our tablet via HDMI to the TV console (yay!) and watch movies through Netflix.
The TV console is a little bit too far from the bed. If you are expecting to watch the shows from your bed, you might feel a bit disappointed as we felt the distance make it hard to enjoy the shows.
The sleeping area features a king-sized bed with two warm lights at the side. It is, unfortunately, not the most comfortable beds that we have ever slept on. In fact, I woke up several times in the middle of the night due to back soreness. The pillows were soft and flat, hence, if you need it to be higher you will need to stack the pillows together.
One thing that we really love is the bathroom. The bathroom comes with both a rain shower area and a bathtub, yet it still feels so spacious. If you are comfortable with your partner, you can actually roll up the blind and watch TV directly from the tub.
You can also find a set of bath amenities in the bathroom. Perhaps the only complaint that we have was the fact that the toilet rolls were too thin that it can hardly last us over two nights. We have to request for one more on the second day of our stay, which usually we don’t have to when we were in other hotels.
Swimming Pool & Gym: We visited the swimming pool and gym on the 6th floor. There is a small baby pool for the kids and a medium-size infinity pool for the rest. The gym is quite small but it is equipped with all the necessary gym equipment for a quick session. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any photos of the place but they can be found easily on the Internet.
Late Check-out: Holiday Villa Johor Bahru has a strict policy for late check-out. We requested for a later check-out but was only given until 12.30 p.m.
Request for Ice: Fortunately, this hotel offers free tube of ice. We have to pay RM 5 for a tube of ice when we stayed at KSL Hotel & Resort.
Room Service: We ordered a plate of nasi lemak (RM 35 nett) for supper. It was sent to our room within a reasonable timeframe. Did I mention that it is really delicious?
Holiday Villa Johor Bahru leaves a really great impression for us. We paid for around S$ 140/night for the premium suite after massive discount from our Agoda account. With such price, it is impossible to get such a good room anywhere in Singapore.
What’s really good is that you are staying literately a stone-throw away from KSL City Mall, where you can easily shop for the things that you need.
Where to stay next in Johor Bahru? Well, it will definitely be Holiday Villa for us.
