Hotel Gracery Sapporo is not our first choice when we were booking our stay in Sapporo. Most of the better hotels have already been fully booked over the last weekend of Winter Festival 2017 when we confirmed our flight dates.
One good thing about this property is that it is strategically located near to Sapporo Station. In fact, there is an underground tunnel that will bring you to the train station.
Around the hotel you can find several shopping malls, which can be very convenient for those who love to shop. There are also two convenience stores located a walking distance away from the hotel.
Our Check-In Experience
We arrived at the hotel in the evening as we experienced flight delays from Singapore to Sapporo. The hotel lobby is located on the 7th floor of the building. As if the receptionist knew that we were very tired from our flight, she completed the check-in process within 10 minutes.
There is not much introduction given to us at the hotel lobby. We guessed she might not be very fluent in English but that’s perfectly fine.
We quickly made our way to the 8th floor thereafter.
Hotel Gracery Sapporo: The Small Double Non-Smoking Room
The Small Double Non-Smoking Room faces a car park behind the hotel building. The property is not tall in nature so don’t expect a very good view from your room. We discovered a really nice park from our view, which later we realized that it was the old government building in Sapporo.
As you can expect from a 15sqm of space, the room feels really small for two adults. It is impossible to open two pieces of medium size luggage at the same time unless you are opened to put them on the bed. This is really inconvenient especially when you have to pack luggage together for the next destination.
The air-conditioner switches to the heater in winter. If you prefer your room to be colder, you will have to use the dehumidifier to circulate cold air around the room. We used the dehumidifier every night as the room temperature was not comfortable enough for our liking.
One must be surprised that the room offers a bathtub instead of a standing shower. It fits in the bathroom well and is large enough for a quick bath.
As expected from a 3-star property, the bathroom is small and unsuitable to fit two adults. The best way is to take turns in the morning so you won’t be knocking one another in the toilet.
One thing that I didn’t like it was the fact that the toilet rolls was placed a bit far from the bidet. It could been placed just right besides so it’s easier to access.
We appreciated that there are bath amenities in the hotel. Since we packed for Winter, we did not bring along our own bath amenities. Their shampoo and body wash were quite flavorful as compared to the one we had in Tokyo.
Unfortunately, the sink and the bathtub were not thoroughly cleaned when we arrived. One of our towels were also stained with dirt.
There are several drinks vending machines at the lobby. If you need alcohol, you can also get from the vending machines. The hotel does not provide any breakfast package. We guessed you have to pay additional over the counter to eat in the hotel. You can always get your breakfast from the convenience stores.
The room costs about SGD 100/night during the normal season. We paid almost 2 times more than the normal price as we booked the room when it was almost sold out. We wouldn’t say that the hotel is worth the price. It should be possible to book a bigger room at a similar price tag. Oh well.
If you have other choices, you might want to look for other hotels. Otherwise, this hotel is just enough for a short stay if you can’t find anything better than this.
