We chose to stay in Hotel Century Southern Tower in Shinjuku because it’s one of the best hotels in the vicinity. After our 3 nights stay in Hotel Gracery Sapporo, we wanted a place more comfortable.
The 4-star property is located 5 minutes walk away from Shinjuku JR Station. In case you are unaware, Shinjuku JR Station is the most accessible train station in Tokyo. You can get to almost anywhere without changing subways.
Around the hotel you can find numerous late-night restaurants (or Izakaya) and shopping malls (shop until you drop). Hotel Century Southern Tower is also just 3-minutes walk away from Takashimaya and Tokyu Hands. You can also find a few convenience stores along the path when you walked from the subway exits to the hotel.
Our Check-In Experience
We had a really comfortable check-in experience with the reception. There were some issues with our booking but we were able to resolve it quickly over the counter as the receptionist professionally handled our case. We were fortunate that there was still a room for us even though we arrived really late in the afternoon (flight delayed).
The receptionists were all able to speak basic English. Throughout our stay, we did not have any issues communicating with them. We even managed to book a limousine airport bus two nights before our flight without any troubles.
Hotel Century Southern Tower: The Tower Deluxe King Room
If you are looking for a high-floor hotel, Century Southern Tower is definitely made for you. Our room is located on the 21st floor even though we booked the lowest tier room in the property. Offering 26 sqm of space, the room is really comfortable for two adults with two large piece of luggage. There are a king-sized bed, sofa and round table in the room. We can hardly notice any wear and tear even though the hotel has been around for a while.
If you are a couch potato, you might want to bring your own entertainment gadgets. Even though there is a cable TV in the room, there are not many English channels. You can also use the Bluetooth keyboard to surf the Internet but my suggestion is to bring your own tablet to surf the web.
The bathroom feels smaller than Aventree Busan. Perhaps this is the reason why the room is only offering at 26 sqm even though the room feels really spacious. For those who hate to stand and bath in the bathtub, I’m sorry to say that the hotel does not offer a separate standing shower. For those who like to use the bathtub, it is unfortunate that the bathtub was not maintained very well for our room.
The bath amenities carry a kind of fragrance that we do not really fancy. We actually find that Hotel Gracery Sapporo offers a better set of bath amenities for the travelers.
We paid around SGD$ 250/night for the room. Yes, it is very expensive for the room as we could have been getting a better room with the same price. However, we both agreed that it is located at a very convenience and peaceful place.
For people who are looking for a cheaper alternative, you may want to take a look at Remm Akihabara or other chain hotels. If you are looking for comfort, we don’t really recommend this hotel as we believe there are better hotels that can offer a better place. However, if you are looking for a good location, Hotel Century Southern Tower is the one that you are looking for.
