As we have an early morning flight at 8 am, we decided to splurge a bit more and stay at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport. This is indeed a good decision as we really enjoy our stay at this hotel.
The 4-star property is located right beside Changi Airport Terminal 3. In fact, there is a connected walkway between Crowne Plaza Changi Airport and Terminal 3. There are many 24-hour shops in the terminal so you don’t have to worry about your empty stomach in the middle of the night.
Our Check-In Experience
We arrived the hotel slightly before the check-in time. There are already a couple of guests checking in at the reception. The only express counter for IHG members happened to be occupied by a lady for quite a long while, hence, I went ahead and checked in at the normal counters.
Within a few minutes, the hotel staff handed me my room keys and dutifully informed me that we were eligible for buffet discounts at the hotel’s restaurant. We were also given a ticket to redeem two welcome drinks from the hotel’s bar. The entire check-in process is really swift and comfortable.
Crowne Plaza Changi Airport: King Business Room (Non-Smoking)
Our room is located on the 4th floor of the newly renovated wing at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport. Guests have to take a long path to the new wing to their rooms. What I really like about the hotel is that there is already a secure door at the new wing, which means that we don’t have to use our room keys to activate the lift. Secure and convenient.
The King Business Room at the hotel offers 28 sqm of space. The bedroom looks small at first glance but starts to get really comfortable later due to the use of mirrors everywhere.
We are really surprised to see both a functional business table and munching area in the room. Given the size of the room, most hotels will give up either one for more luggage space.
The walkway is narrow but not to the extent that it is not walkable. We placed two-pieces of medium-sized luggage in the room near the business table such that it does not block our way. However, you might face difficulties if you want to open two pieces of the luggage at the same time. Since this is an airport hotel, we believe most guests stay at the hotel for a short transit. Hence, this does not really pose a big problem.
I really love the large coffee table! It is big enough to host our takeaway food, unlike most hotels. The sofa is comfortable for two and it’s a shame that we couldn’t make full use of the area since we stayed for a night only.
Opening up the doors you can find a really spacious bathroom. Unfortunately, our room does not face the runway. Some of the rooms in the hotel should be able to enjoy some planes sighting.
There are two binds in the bathroom and we really find it very interesting. The first bind is used for privacy. I mean, you won’t want anyone from the road to see that you are enjoying your bubble bath, right? The second bind is used to block the sunlight so that you can enjoy a good sleep.
In my opinion, sunlight is one of the most important elements to keep a hotel room brighter and less dull. It can also help to naturally reduce odor in the room. With this arrangement, guests can enjoy both privacy and sunlight at the same time.
You can also expect to find a complete set of bathroom amenities by Orla Kiely. We really love the aroma of the bathroom set and we wonder if the towels are also from the same brand.
One might think that only the highest tier rooms in the property have separated showers. Crowne Plaza Changi Airport is to prove it wrong. We are really surprised to find a separate standing shower in the bathroom.
The bathtub is so beautiful that it deserves a photo of its own. We love how the water taps are actually on the side instead of the top/bottom of the bathtub. It’s more comfortable to lie on the bathtub while enjoying the bath.
There are a swimming pool and fitness corner in the hotel. However, you will have to walk to the old wing to access these facilities. We went in the middle of the night just to see how is the swimming pool. It isn’t very big but it’s good enough for a quick swim. You can also find yourself enjoying the traffic control tower from the swimming pool.
In the room, you can also find room mist, which is supposed to help you sleep better. It has a really soft and nice aroma that keep you relax when you spray on the pillow.
We paid around $250/night for the King Business Room at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport. Honestly, this is one of the best stays in Singapore despite the fact that it is not as luxurious as some of the hotels. Perhaps it’s the way they design the hotel, it is really made for travelers to sleep well in the room.
If there is another flight that requires us to fly at wee hours, we will definitely consider staying in the hotel again!
(And a quick attempt to make video of the hotel!)
