Grand Park Orchard is strategically located in the heart of Orchard. It is arguably one of the more affordable ones along with the other brands in the same vicinity. We had a discounted voucher from a credit card company so we decided to treat ourselves to a comfortable stay in the hotel.
Around the hotel you can find Paragon, Cineleisure and Ngee Ann City in walking distance. In fact, you can walk to any shopping malls in Orchard as long as you don’t feel lazy at all.
Our Check-in Experience
Upon knowing that we have booked a room with Crystal Club privilege, the reception staff escorted us to Crystal Club Lounge for our check-in process.
While we were waiting for our room keys, I was told by one of the hotel staff not to take any interior photos of the lounge with my camera. Honestly, I have no idea why in today’s world there is still such restrictive policy on photo-taking.
We received our room keys shortly after. The manager in the lounge is friendly and warm. Throughout our stay, she addressed us with our surnames, which is the kind of standard that one will expect with lounge privilege.
Grand Park Orchard: Crystal Club Deluxe Room
Our room is located on the 8th floor along with the executive lounge. The hotel is relatively small in contrast with other hotel chains nearby. It is, however, still very comfortable in terms of the corridors and lobby space.
The Crystal Club Deluxe Room (or Deluxe Room) at the hotel offers 28 sqm of space, identical to the space offered by King Business Room in Crowne Plaza Changi Airport. In contrast, the bedroom has a bigger space while the shower is significantly smaller than the other hotel.
Since it is only on the 8th floor, one should not expect any good view from the hotel room. In fact, the hotel room is blocked by the pillar views.
The room has obvious wear and tear on its wall and flooring. Even though it has been around for a while, we thought that the maintenance should be done better.
There is a small business table at the corner of the room with a side cabinet. The table was not cleaned thoroughly when we entered the room. It won’t pose a big problem to us as we did not use the table at all but this should not be the standard of a 5-star hotel.
The room comes with a single sink as per like any other old hotels in Singapore. There were two sets of bath amenities in the room, which you can find at the sink and shower area.
If you are a fan of Appelles, you might find it a joy to know that the hotel is using their bath amenities for the guests. We are not a huge fan but they are pretty good to use.
The bathroom comes with both standing shower and deep-soaking tub. Since the tub is located beside the transparent windows, you can watch a television show while you have a dip in the bathtub.
Since we booked the room under Crystal Club, we were entitled to tea break (3 pm) and Happy Hour (5pm-7pm) at the lounge. Honestly, it is one of the best tea breaks we have ever eaten in a hotel.
The hotel also provides breakfast for two for all club members. The food at the lounge was average but the service of the crews is really up to standard.
The hotel wins hands down for its location in Orchard. The crews provided a good service throughout our stay. However, the standard of the room could be improved for a 5-star hotel. For the same location and same standard of services, we could book a newer hotel at slightly more expensive price.
Will we come back again? Perhaps only if the rooms are at a discounted price.
