Doubletree By Hilton Hotel Johor Bahru is a luxurious 4-star hotel located 10 minutes walk away from Komtar JBCC/City Square Mall.
The hotel is one of the very few properties near City Square mall that you can book under S$100. It is our primary go-to hotel when we visit Johor Bahru on the weekends. Here’s our experience!
We booked our stay just a couple of weeks beforehand. Rooms were going for about S$97 per night for a King Guest room and S$114 per night for a King Deluxe room.
Since we didn’t make any plans at night, we decided to book the King Executive room for about S$180 per night. The access to the executive lounge comes in handy for our dinner and drinks.
We booked our room directly from Hilton’s website to earn some Hilton points.
The hotel is walkable from Komtar JBCC. You can take the exit at the main entrance near Swavorski on Level 1. Cross the road and walk towards Amari Johor Bahru. Continue walking until you reach the intersection leading to the expressway. Turn left and continue up the hill.
We always take a GrabCar for about S$2 because we feel that it’s too dangerous to walk that route. The car ride takes about 3-minutes.
The nearest convenience store is located at Amari Johor Bahru. If you need food, you can find a couple of Malay food stall around the hotel. We suggest buying some snacks from the Kaptiam before checking into the hotel. You know, just in case you get hungry before dinner time.
We arrived at around 3:00 pm on a Saturday. The check-in queue can be really long on a busy weekend. We waited for about 20-minutes before we get our room key.
While we were still in the queue, the front desk hotel staff gave us some cookies. The cookies were fresh out of the oven!
Once we were at the front desk, the check-in was done in 10 minutes.
The King Executive Room
There were two configurations for the executive rooms: one king bed or two super single beds. Both are identical in terms of the room size and amenities.
We felt that the executive room is reasonably big for a short stay. If you need to get a bigger room, you will need to book the suite rooms.
Our room was located on the high floor. It was really bright and pleasant as the natural light shone from outside.
Just like most hotels, the room comes with complimentary wifi access. We also had complimentary breakfast and whole-day refreshment thanks to our executive benefits.

Our room had a rain shower. You will need to book yourself into a suite room if you need a bathtub.
There was a sink with complimentary bath amenities. Our towels were very clean.
Next to the sink were the bath amenities from Crabtree & Evelyn. The hotel gave shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion.
If you are a fan of Crabtree & Evelyn, this bath set is designed for you!
The work desk was located right beside the television. The hotel was also equipped with various connection points to the television. You can bring a HDMI cable to plug in your laptop or tv box to the television!
The Executive Lounge
Since we did not make any plans for dinner, we decided to settle our food at the executive lounge.
The pre-dinner cocktails and refreshment are serve every evening from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. You can also have your breakfast at the lounge from 6.00am to 10.30am or 7.00am to 10.30am on the weekends.
The executive lounge was incredibly crowded on the weekends. We had gone to the hotel several times and we had not encountered the executive lounge without any crowd.
We suggest to arrive earlier so that you can get a table. It will be even harder to find a table if you are in a big group.
Unfortunately, we did not have any picture of the food. The spread was pretty impressive. We had fried rice and some fried food for our dinner. Of course, we enjoyed the variety of booze that they offered
Doubletree Johor Bahru is always my top choice if I need to stay in Johor Bahru for a night. With its impressive spread at executive lounge, I find it really worth to pay additional just for the access to the exclusive floor.
If you are looking for a cheap and quick staycation, you can also opt for the cheapest room that’s under S$100. It’s definitely a steal because you can never find such a good price in Singapore.
