A few months ago, we went back to Amari Johor Bahru for a short weekend getaway. I think we were really lucky because we received a ‘massive’ room upgrade from Deluxe King to One Bedroom Suite!
We like our experience with the Junior Suite. Here’s our experience with the highest tier room in the hotel!
Agoda shows that the One Bedroom Suite can be booked for about S$270++ per night.
We booked our original room for approximately S$140 per night. The front desk told us that the rooms were fully booked so we were upgraded to another room. Guessed we were lucky to pay S$140 for the upgraded suite.
Amari Johor Bahru is located directly opposite of Komtar JBCC. You can take the exit near Swavorski and cross the traffic light to reach the hotel.
The hotel’s entrance is located behind the shopping mall. Once you walk into the mall, take the escalator upwards and exit the building. The hotel entrance is located right beside.
Comparing to the past, the shopping mall has more restaurants now. You can find Morganfield’s, Korean BBQ and Japanese restaurant on the first floor. There’s a 7-11 and Toastbox near the lobby too.
We arrived at the hotel lobby before 3.00 pm. Since we were early, we managed to avoid the crowd and get our room keys in a short while.
One Bedroom Suite
The One Bedroom Suite offers 69 sqm space, which is significantly larger than the previous suite we stayed. Like other suites in the hotel, it comes with complimentary wifi access and breakfast, happy-hour and whole-day refreshment at the executive lounge.
Amari Johor Bahru has arguably the most comfortable bed I had ever slept on. The pillow firmness was just nice for my liking and the bed’s comforter was really soft and comfortable to sleep on.
Both living room and bedroom are equipped with Smart TVs. However, the remote controls are specially designed for the hotel such that you will not be able to switch to HDMI or VGA. We couldn’t connect our Android to the TV. However, you can use Miracast to cast your videos to the TVs.
We spent most of our time in the living room. It comes with a comfortable sofa and 3 side tables. We shifted one of the side tables to enjoy our takeaways in front of the TV.f the television.
The room may look a bit dull from my photo (due to my lousy photography skills) but it was really bright when we walked into the room.
As a welcome amenity, we received a platter of fruits and a hand-written letter from the hotel. If you are up for a good massage, you can also visit the hotel’s famous breeze spa to relieve your body stress. The menu is available in every room.
There are double sinks in the suite’s bathroom. We like hotels with two sinks so that we don’t have to snatch over the water in the morning. Between the sinks are the bath amenities from the hotel. The hotel gave shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
As expected, the bathroom comes with both rain shower and bathtub. The bathroom itself is about 2x bigger than the bathroom of a deluxe room. I like the choice of wall tiles as it makes the room a lot brighter and bigger.
The bathtub is really huge for an Asian. If you have a kid, I’m quite sure it’s a good place for him to play with his rubber duck!
Even though the rooms are slightly more expensive than Doubletree Johor Bahru, its close location to the Komtar JBCC makes it really convenient to shop and dine.
I really like Amari Johor Bahru because the hotel provides great hospitality. To be honest, paying S$270++ per night for a top tier suite is definitely a steal. Where can you get that price in Singapore?
If you are celebrating a joyous occasion, this is probably the room that you are looking for!
